  • Solar Cooker / WAPI

Solar Cooker - Offering sustainable technology to the residents of impoverished countries; empowering them to improve their quality of life.

The Integrated Cooking method relies on these basic elements:

    • Solar (sun's free energy as a supplement to fuel wood)
    • Six brick "Rocket" Stoves (fuel and energy efficient)
    • Haybasket (heat retained cooker-similar to a thermos)
    • Water Purification Instrument (WAPI)

Our program utilizes all three methods because Mother Nature is fickle at times. When the sun shines we opt to use the solar cookers to cook the food. When it is overcast or raining we use the "Rocket" stoves, which burn small twigs, brush, or biomass. Haybaskets are used to complete the cooking process or keep food hot for 4 - 6 hours. WAPIs are used to indicate when water is pasteurized-clean for drinking.

    WAPI

The WAPI, a reusable Water Pasteurization Indicator is a simple, low cost device that can be used to determine when water has reached pasteurization temperatures.
Water related diseases are responsible for 80% of all illnesses and deaths in the developing world. An estimated 1.5 billion cases of diarrhea occur each year, resulting in the death of nearly 2 million children. Worldwide, about 1.3 billion people do not have access to safe drinking water, including nearly half of the population of sub-Sahara Africa.
Producing WAPIs and distributing them to families living in areas of the world where clean water is unavailable positively impacts world health.
